The Orchid Bog

Pacific Orchid Expo 2010 March 16, 2010

The Pacific Orchid Expo in San Francisco was held Feb. 26-28 and it was a great show! I took lots of photos per usual, but I definitely tried to zero in on the more unusual and/or new-to-me orchids. My favorite orchid was the Clowesia Rebecca Northern ‘Hill Top’; the delicately fringed pale pink blooms and a sweet ginger scent had me captivated. I included the cymbidium because some of the blooms had white centers while a few were maroon. I thought it was pretty unusual for flowers on the same stalk, as well as the same plant, to look so different.

My husband and I usually buy a bunch of new orchids at the POE since it’s only once a year and there’s such a diverse collection of orchids for sale at reasonable prices. But since it currently takes about 90 minutes to water all of our orchids and we’ve seen a fair amount of  “attrition” lately, I decided to focus on caring for what we have. Nathaniel did purchase two new plants which I’ll show in an upcoming post.

    Hi Elaine,

I don’t own the Masevallia Caudata; it was part of a display at the POE. It looks like the vendor was probably Ecuagenera.
